which will be held in the Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone at 3.00p.m. Monday, 9th
January 2017
AGENDA
1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.
2. To approve the Minutes of December Monthly Meeting held on 5th December 2016.
3. Matters arising.
4. To receive a presentation from HSE re St Vincent’s Hospital.
5. To receive a presentation from IDA re future plans for expansion in the Midlands.
6. To consider Report on Submissions to Moate Parking Bye-laws.
7. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway Field Road.
8. Questions: The answers to questions raised will be circulated to each Member.

a) Cllr. T. Farrell:
“That this Municipal District writes to the Minister for Justice requesting that the
community alert texting be regularised by An Garda Siochana.
b) Cllr. T. Farrell:
“That the Municipal District calls on the Government to include the Post Office
network in the Single Euro Payments Area (S.E.P.A.) and each be allocated an
IBAN and BIC in order to attract more financial transactions and make the network
more sustainable for rural communities”
c) Cllr. T. Farrell:
“That this Municipal District carries out a Safety Audit at the Bullet Road,
Ballykeeran and that speed ramps be installed on the road behind Quinn’s Garage”
d) Cllr. J. Dolan:
“That this Municipal District provides for the expansion of Athlone Marina and
provides a timeframe for such expansion”
e) Cllr. J. Dolan:
“That this Municipal District extends the footpath to Hogan Park GAA ground and
installs a crossing at the pitch”
f) Cllr. J. Dolan:
“That this Municipal District gives a report on the numbers of people on the Housing
List in this District, what houses are available and how houses are allocated by the
Council”
g) Cllr. P. Hogan:
“That Athlone Municipal District tackles the indiscriminate dumping along the canal
and the Big Meadow”
h) Cllr. P. Hogan:
“That Athlone Municipal District writes to the Minister for Defence and the
Government requesting a redress scheme be established for all members of the
Defence Forces who have suffered adversely after been administered Lariam”
i) Cllr. P. Hogan:
“That the Members of Athlone Municipal District be updated regarding the EIS for
the extension of the cycleway west of the Shannon and towards Galway”
j) Cllr. F. Keena:
“That this Municipal District writes to Minister Shane Ross to urgently seek funding
to extend the Greenway from the White Gates to the Marina”
k) Cllr. F. Keena:
“That Athlone Municipal District carries out an immediate survey on the condition
of all the double glazed windows within their housing stock, with the intention of
replacing the faulty ones”
l) Cllr. F. Keena:
“That this Municipal District looks for funding from the Department to provide
public lighting on the Greenway in Moate”
m) Cllr. A. McManus:
“That this Municipal District discusses safety measures for exiting the Business Park
on the Dublin Road”
n) Cllr. A. McManus:
“That this Municipal District looks at providing information sessions for the public
regarding the safe use of the cycleway”
o) Cllr. A. McManus:
“That this Municipal District repairs the footpath on both sides of the road between
Nos. 39 and 52 Assumption Road”
p) Cllr. A. O’Rourke:
“For Westmeath County Council to make funding available to provide a pedestrian crossing
from Arcadia Retail Park to Athlone Mixed National School”
q) Cllr. A. O’Rourke:
“For Westmeath County Council to write to the Minister for Education and Skills calling on
him to re-establish a Hospitality and Tourism training body (like CERT in the past), to meet
the growing demand for trained personnel to work in our expanding Tourism, Catering,
Accommodation and Hospitality sector”
r) Cllr. A. O’Rourke:
“For Westmeath County Council to examine all engineering options in order to devise a
solution to the flood risk that exists under the railway bridge on the Ballymahon Road near
Roslevin Lawns, and for this solution to be in place in advance of the commencement of
any one-way system for the town”
