Purpose
The use of CCTV by Westmeath County Council is for the following purposes.
Legal Basis
The performance of tasks carried out in the public interest or for our official functions, such as law enforcement under the Waste Management Act and Litter Acts.
What Personal Information is collected?
Live video recording images of an identifiable individual.
Source of Personal Information
This personal data is collected through the CCTV cameras operated by the Council in Council buildings and premises and on sites where illegal dumping or littering is taking place.
Sharing of Data
This data will only be processed by the Council for this purposes outlined above.
In certain circumstances we may be required to disclose CCTV images to certain bodies of authority, such as the police, the judiciary and our solicitors.
Will your data be stored in or accessible from countries with no Irish-equivalent Privacy Law protections?
No
Retention Period
The CCTV footage is retained for 30 days after the date of capture. We process and retain footage for a longer period when the footage is relevant to an investigation.
