You are requested to attend the September Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone at 3.00p.m. Monday,

3rd September 2018.

 

AGENDA

 

  1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

 

  1. To approve the Minutes of the July Monthly Meeting held on 2nd July 2018.

 

  1. Matters arising.

 

  1. To receive presentation in respect of Loughnavalley Community Development study (June 2018)

 

  1. To arrange date for Car Parking Sub-Committee.

 

  1. To receive an update on the Church St Enhancement project.

 

  1. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway  Field Road.

  1. Motions:

 

Cllr.Tom Farrell :“That Athlone Municipal District calls on the Department of Education to review its decision to make history non-compulsory at junior cert level?”

 

Cllr. Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District  provide additional funding to carry out major repairs on the Moate- Moyvoughley Road( L1303).”

 

Cllr. Tom Farrell : “That this Athlone Municipal District  provide a footpath for the houses on the Hall Rd Moate.”

 

Cllr. Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District contact Irish Water and request that they replace the watermain at Ardnaree as a matter of urgency.”

 

Cllr. Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District put signage in place at the train station/bus station to direct visitors to the town centre upon arrival in Athlone.”

 

Cllr. Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District write to Minister for Transport to request that the amplification system on all train services are upgraded.”

 

Cllr. John Dolan: “That Athlone Municipal District installs ramps and repairs the footpaths at McCormack Park.”

 

Cllr. John Dolan:  “That Athlone Municipal District request Irish Water to replace the pipe work in Ardnaree.”

 

Cllr. John Dolan  :“That Athlone Municipal District request Westmeath County Council to provide a scheme to allow council tenants to insure their property for damages, fire and theft.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke:  “For this Municipal District to review and consider the amount of public bins in the Athlone area with a view to possibly removing bins where they are no longer required, providing additional bins as necessary and upgrading / replacing bins where required.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke: “For this Municipal District to devise and implement a very clear and instructive set of guidelines for businesses in relation to how they may and may not use the footpath area to the front of their premises and clearly setting out the reasonable footprint available to them and the quality / style of furniture allowable.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke: “For this Municipal District to carry out a cleaning, repair and painting programme for all signage within our responsibility in the Athlone area to commence before the year end.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment calling for the introduction of a subvention to An Post in a bid to save the closure of Post Offices in rural Ireland.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District replace the leylandii trees at Newtown green in Moate with more suitable trees.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District create a new access point to Greenway at the bridge on Rosemount road in Moate.”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena:  “That this Municipal District corresponds to the Minister with responsibility for Defence to support the request for better pay and conditions for the members of the Defence Forces and to focus on the need of retention of numbers by providing increase remuneration.”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena:  “That this Municipal District discuss the deplorable state of the old VEC building on Northgate Street and that it facilitates a meeting of the owners to identify ways of addressing the issue.”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena:  “That this Municipal District identifies appropriate infrastructural projects that would be sensitive to the character of Glasson Village and at the same time bring economic benefit to the area.”

 

Cllr. Paul Hogan: “That Athlone Municipal District writes to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform requesting the restoration of equal pay to all public servants recruited since 2011.”

 

Cllr. Paul Hogan: “That Athlone Municipal District writes to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform requesting that low pay and conditions in our Defence Forces be addressed.”

 

Cllr. Paul Hogan: “That Athlone Municipal District provide an adequate footpath surface between Retreat Park and the Greenway.”
