You are requested to attend the May Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Board Room of Athlone Institute of Technology at 3.00p.m. Tuesday, 8th May 2018.

 

AGENDA

 

  1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

 

  1. To approve the Minutes of the April Monthly Meeting held on 3rd April 2018.

 

  1. Matters arising.

 

  1. To receive a presentation from Gas Networks Ireland on Gas to Centerparcs project.

 

  1. To receive a presentation from Athlone Institute of Technology on the 20 year plan for the development of the Institute.

 

  1. To receive a report on the Dublin Galway National Cycleway.

 

     7. To consider date and time for hosting the Civic Address of Welcome for the Worlds Canal Conference delegates – Monday 10th September at 5.30 in Athlone Castle is proposed.

 

  1. To receive a recommendation from car parking subcommittee on Moate parking byelaws

 

  1. To receive a recommendation from car parking subcommittee on  Athlone parking byelaws

 

  1. To receive an update on the Church St Enhancement project.

 

  1. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway Field Road.

 

  1. Questions: The answers to questions raised will be circulated to each Member.

 

   13 . Correspondence.

 

  1. Motions:

 

a)           Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District carry out a safety review at  Loughnavalley Village to advance a low cost safety application.”

 

b)          Cllr Tom Farrell: “Can Athlone Municipal District meet with the residents of Portaneena in relation to the Lakeside Amenity Area.”

 

c)           Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District ask TII to examine the need for resurfacing on a number of sections on the N55 between Tang and Athlone.”

 

d)          Cllr John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District discuss the rota and frequency for the emptying of bottle banks in the district”.

 

e)           Cllr John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District seek additional funding from the Government to repair and resurface the roads damaged from the bad weather.”

 

f)           Cllr John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District request that a representative from Failte Ireland be invited to give a presentation to the District on Irelands Hidden Heartlands in relation to maximising the tourist potential in Athlone.”

 

g)          Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to invite the National Transport Authority to attend a monthly meeting of this district to present their plans and objectives for the delivery of Public Transport for Athlone and environs.”

 

h)         Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to invite the new local IDA representative Mr Ken Whitelaw to a monthly meeting to update us on future IDA plans and objectives for Athlone and to discuss opportunities presented by our new designation as a Regional Growth Centre.”

 

i)        Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to assess the condition of the back lanes in the 'Old Batteries', ie. St Paul's, St Anne's etc. with a view to carrying out work to improve their condition?”

 

j)        Cllr Frankie Keena “That this Municipal District take immediate action to protect and conserve the last remaining sections of the Athlone Town Wall from such threats as large trees, etc.”

 

k)      Cllr Frankie KeenaThat this Municipal District carryout immediate repair to the poor sections of footpaths in St. Francis Tce, St. Bridget’s Tce & Railway View.”

 

l)        Cllr Frankie Keena “That this Municipal District give an update as to when the the new tourist information signs will be erected in Ballymore & the Ballykeeran viewing point.”

 

m)    Cllr Michael O’Brien “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for Health calling for new national guidelines to be introduced prohibiting parking charges at hospitals for cancer patients and those undergoing ongoing treatment for their illness.”

 

n)      Cllr Michael O’Brien “That Athlone Municipal District erect the code of conduct signage along the Greenway”

 

o)      Cllr Michael O’Brien That Athlone Municipal District install a new footpath between Clara Road and Ard Grainne in Moate.
