You are requested to attend the July Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone at 10.00am Monday, 2nd July 2018.

 

AGENDA

 


    1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

 

    2. To approve the Minutes of the AGM held on 11th June, Monthly Meeting held on 11th June and In committee meetings held on 21st and 27th June 2018

 

    3. Matters arising.

 

    4. To receive a presentation from Failte Ireland on Irelands Hidden Heartlands in relation to maximising the tourist potential in Athlone.

 

    5. To receive an update on Athlone Shannon Festival planning

 

    6. To consider amendment to Section 17 of District Standing Orders to allow a maximum of 3 Motions per Councillor per meeting.

 

    7. To receive an update on the Church St Enhancement project.

 

    8. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway Field Road.

 

    9. Questions: The answers to questions raised will be circulated to each Member.

Cllr. John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District seeks to provide more charging stations in the district for electric cars.”

 

Cllr. John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District discusses introducing a scheme to employ temporary staff when required.”

 

Cllr. John Dolan “That Athlone Municipal District seeks to have the Rapid areas extended to areas of Moate”

 

Cllr. Tom Farrell “That Athlone Municipal District  request a safety review at Churchill, Horseleap to be carried out from the county boundary to bridge at Churchill”

 

Cllr. Tom Farrell “That Athlone Municipal District write to Irish Water requesting that they take over the sewerage system serving the 6 council houses in Moyvore.”

 

Cllr. Tom Farrell “To ask Athlone Municipal District to carry out a low cost safety scheme at Drumraney Junction L5367 of the R390.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to prepare a report in time for our budget deliberations this autumn, to give details as to what it would take, in terms of Euros and Human Resources, for this MD to present and maintain Athlone town to a high standard in 2019 and going forward.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to provide the same level of service to the public during July and August as we do for the rest of the year.”

 

Cllr. Aengus O’Rourke” For this Municipal District to adopt a zero tolerance approach to council tenants who engage in dumping and to be ruthlessly proactive in this area, confronting those who we all know to be serial dumpers on public ground and who expect others to clean up after them.”

 

Cllr. P Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District, in collaboration with Waterways Ireland, the OPW, Inland Fisheries and other relevant stakeholders initiate a maintenance strategy to enable greater access for anglers along the River Shannon and canal adjacent to the Big Meadow.”

 

Cllr. P Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District carry out a survey of Greenway users at various intervals along the greenway between Mullingar to Athlone.”

 

Cllr. P Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District cut overhanging briars along the old canal bank opposite the Shamrock Lodge Hotel”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena “That this Municipal District carry out a feasibility study of providing a pedestrian / cycling bridge from Coosan Point to Killinure Point”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena  "That this Municipal District carry out a feasibility study of reopening Athlone canal for navigation”

 

Cllr. Frankie Keena “That this Municipal District write to the Minister for Justice to seek a briefing on his plans to address the increasing issue of drug intimidation within our communities and what extra resources is being given to the Gardai to resolve this issue.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien “That Athlone Municipal District apply for project 2040 urban generation funding for the development of a 10,000 seat indoor concert arena for Athlone.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social protection and the Minister for Transport calling for the introduction of free travel for full time third level students.”

 

Cllr. Michael O’Brien “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment calling for waste collection to be brought back under the control of local authorities and included in the local property tax.”
