You are requested to attend the January Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone at 3.00p.m. Monday,

8^th January 2018.

 

AGENDA

 

1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

 

2. To approve the Minutes of the December Monthly Meeting held on 4^th December 2017 and in committee meeting held on 19^th December 2017.

 

3. Matters arising.

 

4. To receive a report on the Church St Enhancement project.

 

5. To receive an update on Athlone Flood Alleviation Scheme

 

6. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway Field Road.

 

7. Questions: The answers to questions raised will be circulated to each Member.

       8.   Correspondence. 

9. Motions:

     

• Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District erect public lighting at Boher Church & Drumraney Community Centre. 

   

• Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athone Municipal District request Board Gais to make a presentation to a meeting of Athlone Municipal District concerning the route of the new gas line going to Centreparcs, Ballymahon and explain the procedures for new connections. 

   

• Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District carry out a safety review of the works done at Tinkers Cross as motorists have complained of poor lighting at night.”

 

 

 

• Cllr John Dolan: “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for Health, the Minister for Education and Skills, and the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection to request that legislation be introduced to make Occupational first aid training compulsory for all physically able teachers and SNAs and that it will be fully funded by the Government. The Law should be known as Isabbelles Law.

   

• Cllr John Dolan: “That Athlone Municipal District provide funding for the repair at the Newtown Moate between Ave Maria park and The Carmelite church.

   

• Cllr John Dolan: “That Athlone Municipal District repairs and extends the footpaths at Castledaly church towards the village.

 

 

 

• Cllr Frankie Keena: “That this Municipal District write to the Minister for Finance requesting him to reverse the decision taken by the Revenue Commissioners last Summer to permanently close its public enquiry office in Pearse St, Athlone.”

 

 

 

• Cllr Frankie Keena:  “Due to the fact that Ardnagrath NS is just outside the Clar designated area I am requesting that this Municipal District consider carrying out immediate appropriate repairs to the road serving the school under a low costs safety scheme or some other funding stream.

   

• Cllr Frankie Keena:  “That this Municipal District provide appropriate slow down signs on Regional Road 444 as it disects through the village of Castledaly, in the interest of public safety.

   

• Cllr Ailish McManus:  That this Municipal District write to the Minister of the OPW and request that funding is provided to create a database of existing records in all graveyards in the Athlone Municipal District.

 

 

 

• Cllr Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District carry out a safety review at the Texas Centre road which joins St. Mary’s  Square and  Sean Costello Street

 

 

 

• Cllr Ailish McManus:  “That this Municipal District look at the Pelican crossing location on the Ballymahon road at the existing junction between Cloghanboy, Mayfield Grove and Croughans in order to enhance pedestrian safety. “

 

 

 

• Cllr Aengus O’Rourke: “For this Municipal District to assist and facilitate a new twinning arrangement between the town of Athlone and a city overseas. Twinning is increasingly being used around the world to form strategic international commercial, tourism, educational and economic links that encourage trade and tourism between the town entities.”

 

 

 

• Cllr Aengus O’Rourke : “For this Municipal District to commit to a scheme of design lighting along our promenade using the mature trees.”

 

 

 

• Cllr Aengus O’Rourke : “For this Municipal District to make a case to the Arts Council of Ireland for money to be set aside from the estate of the late John Broderick to refurbish his grave at Cornamagh Cemetry in Athlone.”

   

• Cllr Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District carry out urgent road and drainage works at a section of road in Larragh, Rosemount”.

 

 

 

• Cllr Michael O’Brien:  “That Athlone Municipal District install a ramp at Ave Marie Park, Moate”.

 

 

 

• Cllr Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District write to the Minister for Justice calling for electronic monitoring to be a condition of bail for repeat offenders”.
