You are requested to attend the May Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Streamstown Community Centre, Streamstown at 2.00p.m. Tuesday, 3^rd May 2016

AGENDA

 

1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

2. To approve the Minutes of April Monthly Meeting held on 4^th April 2016.

          Minutes AMD April 16 Meeting

3. Matters arising.

4. To nominate two Members to attend the European People’s Festival in Rezekne, Latvia on the 24^th July 2016.

5. To nominate a Member as the representative to the County Westmeath Heritage Forum.

6. To consider proposal to rename Roads in Athlone in honour of the Signatories of the 1916 Proclamation.

           Report Naming of Roads

7. To receive an update on the  L1427 Baylin to Mount Temple Road Closure

8. To note proposals for the repair of roads following the severe winter weather.

9. To consider a proposal to support Galway’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2020

10. To consider holding the Annual Meeting of Athlone Municipal District at 2pm on 7^th June and rescheduling the Athlone Municipal District Meeting to 2.30pm

11. Questions: The answers to questions raised will be circulated to each Member.

13. Motions:

a)   Cllr. T. Farrell:

“That this Municipal District carries out a Safety Review at the crossroads in Loughnavalley village.

b)  Cllr. T. Farrell:

“That the Members be advised on whose responsibility the fencing along the new cycleway is because there is a lot of confusion over it”

c)  Cllr. T. Farrell:

“That the Members be updated on the status of the funding in relation to the section of the cycleway from Garrycastle to the Whitegates, as this will service our schools and sports facilities and will also provide parking for all users.

d)  Cllr. J. Dolan:

“That this Municipal Authority liaises with the different Tidy Towns Groups along the cycleway in order to try to prevent the dumping of litter on the cycleway”

e)   Cllr. J. Dolan:

“That this Municipal Authority examines ways of preventing anti social behaviour at Clonbrock Court.

f)   Cllr. J. Dolan:

“That this Municipal Authority engages with the local community group in Streamstown to find and develop an access to the greenway in order to help develop the old Station.

g)  Cllr. A. McManus:

“That this Municipal Authority carries our emergency works at Coosan Point riverfront and slipway”

h)   Cllr. A. McManus:

“That this Municipal Authority put in traffic calming measures in Kilmacoo Lane as promised”

i)   Cllr. A. McManus:

“That this Municipal Authority cut the overgrown bushes on the R915 (Ballymahon Rd) on the left hand side at the bridge”

j)   Cllr. M. O’Brien:

“That Athlone Municipal District writes to the incoming relevant Ministers and call on them to address the severe rising costs of insurance premiums as a matter of urgency”

k)   Cllr. M. O’Brien:

“That Athlone Municipal District installs a ramp at Ava Maria Park, Moate”

l)      Cllr. M. O’Brien:

“That Athlone Municipal District paints the local authority housing development at Newtown Corner, Moate”

m)  Cllr. F. Keena:

“That this Municipal District considers developing a link road between the Brawny Road and the Retreat Road and another between Brawny and Garrycastle in the interest of improving traffic flow around the town”

n)   Cllr. F. Keena:

“That this Municipal District considers creating a regular farmer's / food market in Athlone in conjunction with Athlone Chamber and Destination Athlone”

 o)  Cllr. F. Keena:

“That this Municipal District  provides a full report on the closure of the Baylin / Mount Temple Road and indicates a timeframe as to when it will be reopened”
