Westmeath celebrates Crinniú na nÓg on 23rd June

With the support of Creative Ireland, this Saturday sees children all around the country taking part in Crinniú na nÓg, offering opportunities to celebrate creativity among our young people. In Wesmeath, there are a range of events including workshops and performances which we hope will encourage children to embrace their creativity and imagination.

Highlights include free performances: Dance Delirium takes place from 3pm and offers a chance to see young dances from local dance schools perform in the Mullingar Arts Centre. Áras an Mhuilinn  will be hosting Ceolchoirm na nÓg from 3pm. This is a brilliant chance to celebrate traditional Irish music. The audience is encouraged to bring their instruments as there will be a chance for the audience to join in during part of the Ceolchoirm. The Emerald Lakes will also have a free performance for an evening of Culture and Creativity in Rochfortbridge Parish Hall at 7.45pm.

There’s plenty for children who like to create art. The Luan Gallery  in Athlone will host Under the Sea; two workshops from 11am to 12pm and 12pm to 1pm giving children the opportunity to create their very own sea creatures, discover the ocean and learn about marine life in this fun arts & craft workshop, suitable for 4 – 12 year olds.

The fun will continue throughout the afternoon with Athlone Castle hosting drop-in arts and crafts activities from 2pm to 4pm. Children will become kings and queens for the afternoon, creating and decorating their very own medieval crown using paper, colours, gems, and stickers!

The Crane Bird Arts tudio in Mullingar will be hosting 2 workshops,  mixed media and clay modelling for 4-9 year olds at 10.30 and a special workshop for 10-16 year olds on anime, illustration and cartoons at 12.

Check out your local Library on Saturday morning: Athlone Library will be fun of noise as the Mobile Music School comes to town with workshops at 10.30 and 11.30. Mullingar Library will also be hosting a special storytime with  The Under the Bed Monsters at 11am. The Lithuanian Language school will also be hosting a folk dance session for the students in Aras an Chontae from 12-12.30. Drop in and join the fun!

Creative Ireland also supports coding and the Coder Dungeon in Clonmellonis hosting a special Open Day from 3pm- 6pm. Why not drop in and try your hand at coding or lego making and check out some the video editing going on?
