Severe Weather Warning Event: Storm Éowyn

Westmeath County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team in attendance at the control centre established in the Council Chamber in Mullingar on 24th Jan over 200 reports of incidents of storm damage including fallen trees, slates off roofs, electrical wires brought down and other damage to private and public property.
Westmeath County Council crews commenced working on responding to the issues reported once the red warning had ended and it was considered safe to mobilize in the orange warning. There were a significant number of unreported issues (Trees down) to be dealt with also.
Initial focus on clearing the National Road and Regional Road Network in the daylight hours on Friday as salting operation scheduled on Fri Night.
A resumption of clearance planned for Saturday, with a focus on priority concerns as presented by the Control Room team. It is also planned to work Sunday to clear issues.
The public have been advised that due to the large volume of issues reported and the ongoing weather conditions this work will take time. Every effort will be made to resolve the issues as soon as possible whilst ensuring the safety of staff and members of the public.
