Rates alleviation measures relating to Covid-19 restrictions

Waiver of Rates

Westmeath County Council has received notification from the Government that Commercial Rates

are to be waived, for a 3-month period commencing on 27 March 2020, for all business that have

been forced to close due to public health requirements.

We will be applying a credit, equal to 25% of the 2020 rates demand, to the account of each affected

Ratepayer. A Statement of Account will issue to each Ratepayer in the normal course.

The Rates Team are contactable by email at rates@westmeathcoco.ie or 044 933 8959 should you

have a query.

Restart Fund

Westmeath County Council has also been advised by Government of the decision to provide €250m

for the establishment of a national Restart Fund. The fund will target micro and small businesses

that have suffered a dramatic loss of turnover due to the COVID-19 restrictions and which require

assistance in reconnecting with the marketplace.

We have been informed that the technical details of the scheme, and how the Fund will be

administered, will be developed in the coming weeks by the Department of Housing, Planning and

Local Government, the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation and the Department of

Public Expenditure and Reform, in consultation with the CCMA.
