Yesterday Cathaoirleach Cllr Billy Collentine officially launched the Exhibition ‘The Story of Us: Independent Ireland and the 1926 Census’

Guest speakers on the night were Orlaith McBride, Director of the National Archives and Dr John Gibney Historian with the Royal Irish Academy, co-editors of the publication ‘The Story of Us: Independent Ireland and the 1926 Census’.

The exhibition features an audio-visual and a series of information panels, beautifully illustrated with contemporary photographs and one of the panels focuses on specifically on data collected in the 1926 census in Westmeath. The exhibition includes a replica census book, and visitors are invited to take home a copy of the booklet that accompanies the exhibition.

Opening weekdays 10am – 4pm with late openings Tuesdays and Thursdays ‘til 8pm and opening Sat 5th Sept 10:30am - 1:30pm.
