River Shannon in Athlone and Environs - 10 March

Water levels in the River Shannon have fallen over the last six days and currently stand at 39.17m OD, which is 17cm below the highest level recorded during this flooding event, which was reached on Wednesday 4 March 2020.

The combination of permanent and temporary flood defences in Athlone town continues to be effective in preventing significant flooding and it is anticipated that river levels will continue to fall slowly over the coming days.

The Council will maintain the temporary flood defences in Athlone pending more certainty regarding the medium term forecast in terms of rainfall and river levels.
