Private Housing Grants Scheme 2025 - Update as of 23rd July, 2025
Westmeath County Council received an allocation of €2,405,378 for the Private Housing Grants Scheme
2025. The budget for this Scheme is allocated by the Department of Housing, Local Government and
Heritage on an annual basis.
Due to the demand for grants under this Scheme, the Council sought additional funding and subsequently
the overall budget now amounts to €2,730,007 which consists of Departmental and Local Authority
funding.
The following outlines the basis of priority and is detailed on the application form for Housing Grants.

Priority 1:
Westmeath County Council will continue to accept and process Priority 1 Applications. This is to allow for
applicants most in need to be progressed.
Priority 2:
Applications which have already been received and are validated will continue to be processed, subject to
budget.
Applications received from 21st July will be retained, however, these applications will not be progressed
until 2026.
Priority 3:
The budget for 2025 has been exhausted, no further Priority 3 applications will be processed in 2025.
Any applications received will be acknowledged and registered, however, they will not be progressed
until 2026 at the earliest, subject to budget.
This approach ensures that the Council addresses the most critical needs while maintaining fiscal
responsibility in the context of significant demand for the scheme.
