The N52 (Turin to Billistown) project is Phase 2 of the N52 Cloghan to Billistown road improvement scheme, and will be 6km long. This realignment involves necessary road works to upgrade and improve the quality of the existing road which falls well below national standards.
When complete in autumn 2020, the travelling public will be afforded 17km (approx.) of consistent alignment (Type 1 single carriageway) between the N4 Mullingar Bypass (Junction 16) and Delvin. Driver confusion and error will be reduced and road safety will be greatly improved for all road users.
The contractor, Fox Building and Engineering Ltd, commenced work on site on the 10th April 2019.
The duration of the Contract is approximately 18 months.
Temporary traffic management measures including advance signage will be in place for the duration of the works.
No significant route diversions are expected, except perhaps where the works cross existing public roads. In such instances, the contractor will install and maintain appropriate temporary traffic management measures. These may include temporary traffic lights and variable message signs (VMS). Some traffic delays may be expected particularly at peak times.
An information exercise is currently being undertaken by the contractor. This involves a letterdrop to all properties directly affected by the works.
Westmeath County Council appreciates the cooperation of the travelling public and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused.
