Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993
Notice is hereby given of the INTENTION of Westmeath County Council to close to through traffic
a section of the National road network as described hereunder.
Dates of the closure: 16th of August to 7th September 2021
Hours of closure: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday night 7pm – 06.30am
The closure is required to facilitate the essential pavement resurfacing works on the N4 Dual
N4 Diversion route: - J15 to J16
Divert from the N4 at Junction 15 (Mullingar East), Turn Left onto the N52, take the 3rd exit from
the roundabout onto R156 continue straight for 1.8km, at the traffic lights turn Right onto the
N52 Delvin Rd, continue straight for 1km at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on
the N52, continue straight for 700m until N4 J16, traffic to take the left turn joining the N4 Dual
Carriageway using the westbound merge slip ramp
N4 Diversion route: - J16 to J17
Divert from N4 at Junction 16 (Mullingar centre), turn left onto the N52 Delvin Rd, continue
straight for 600m, and at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on the N52 for 600m,
then turn left onto Robinstown Rd for 1.5km, and at the next roundabout take the first exit and
remain on the Robinstown Rd. At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit from the roundabout
onto the R394 continue straight for approximately 1km until N4 J17, traffic to take the left turn
joining the N4 Dual Carriageway using the westbound merge slip ramp.
N4 Diversion route: - J17 to N4 West via L1773 Culleenmore
Divert from N4 at Junction 17 (Mullingar West), Turn left onto the R394 for approximately 1km,
and at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on the R394 for approximately 1km, and
at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit remaining on the old Longford rd. for 100m, at the next
roundabout take the second exit on to the old Longford Rd continue straight for approximately
4km on the L1773 Culleenmore Rd until re-joining the N4 turning Left at the T junction for
Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána.
Emergency access will be allowed at all times.
A map indicating the location of the road closure and the diversions to be put in place may be
viewed on the local authority’s website at www.westmeathcoco.ie.
Any person who wishes to object to the closure of this road should lodge their submission to the
District Manager of the District of Mullingar Kinnegad, Áras an Chontae, Mullingar, not later
than 9.00am on Friday 23rd July 2021.
