Intention Notices - Proposed N4 Road Closure -– Eastbound

Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROADS

Notice is hereby given of the INTENTION of Westmeath County Council to close to through traffic a section of the National road network as described hereunder.

  • The N4 Eastbound to Junction 17 detour route
  • The N4 Eastbound between Junction 17 (Mullingar West) and Junction 16 (Mullingar Centre )
  • The N4 Eastbound Between Junction 16 (Mullingar centre) and Junction 15 (Mullingar East)


Dates of the closure: 30th August to 30th September 2021

Hours of closure: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday night 7pm – 06.30am
The closure is required to facilitate the essential pavement resurfacing works on the N4 Dual Carriageway.


N4 Diversion route: - N4 East – J17
N4 traffic travelling East will divert onto the westbound Carriageway for approximately 1km travelling up the westbound merge ramp at Junction 17 , then turn left at the T junction onto the R394 , then at the next roundabout take the 4th exit re-joining the N4 Dual Carriageway using the Eastbound merge slip ramp


N4 Diversion route: - J17 to J16
Divert from N4 at Junction 17 (Mullingar West), Take the 4th exit from the roundabout onto the R394, Proceed along the R394 for 1km, at the roundabout take the first exit onto the Robinstown Rd then at the next roundabout take the first exit and remain on the Robinstown Rd for approximately 1.5km, at the T junction turn Left onto the N52, at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on the N52 for approximately 600m re-joining the N4 Dual Carriageway using the Eastbound merge slip ramp.


N4 Diversion route: - J16 to J15
Divert from N4 at Junction 16 (Mullingar centre), turn left onto the N52, at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on the N52 for approximately 600m , then at the roundabout take the second exit remaining on the N52 for approximately 1km , at the traffic lights turn left onto the R156 for 1.8km. At the second roundabout Take the first exit onto the N52, re-joining the N4 Dual Carriageway using the eastbound merge slip ramp.
Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access will be allowed at all times.

A map indicating the location of the road closure and the diversions to be put in place may be viewed on the local authority’s website at www.westmeathcoco.ie.
Any person who wishes to object to the closure of this road should lodge their submission to the District Manager of the District of Mullingar Kinnegad, Áras an Chontae, Mullingar, not later than 9.00am on Friday 23rd July 2021.
