Affordable Housing Scheme – Closing at Midnight, Monday 7th November

   

Westmeath County Council has launched its first Affordable Housing Scheme in Bower Hill, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

The Affordable Housing Scheme makes local homes available at a reduced price for first-time buyers, and Fresh Start applicants, whose combined mortgage and deposit will not cover the market price of the newly built home.

Through the scheme, Westmeath County Council takes a percentage equity stake (share of the ownership) in the home equal to the difference between the open market value of the property and the reduced price paid by the purchaser.

Applications will be available via an online application portal which will be detailed here. The application portal will go live on Monday 17th October at 12 noon and will remain open until midnight, Monday 7th November.

Please note that where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of affordable dwellings for which applications are made, applications will be prioritised in accordance with Westmeath County Council’s Scheme of Priority.

Before applying please ensure that the following eligibility rules apply to you:

  1. Be First Time Buyer or meet the exceptions under the Fresh Start Principle.
  2. Each person included in the application must have the right to reside indefinitely in the State
  3. To apply for a 2-bedroom property, gross household income for the preceding 12 month should be below €75,729.
  4. To apply for a 3-bedroom property, gross household income for the preceding 12 month should be below €87,943.
  5. To apply for a 4-bedroom property, gross household income for the preceding 12 month should be below €91,119.
  6. The affordable home must be the household's normal place of residence.
  7. Applicant's purchasing power does not exceed 95% of the market value of the property
