Community Involvement Scheme

Westmeath County Council invites expressions of interest from local communities who are interested in availing of the Community Involvement Scheme. Eligible schemes will be included in a programme of works for completion in 2020/2021.

What is the Community Involvement Scheme?

The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport provides funding nationally towards this scheme. Local authorities do not have the funds to carry out desirable maintenance works to all roads in their charge and the purpose of this initiative is to maximise the resources available for local road maintenance.

This scheme encourages a joint approach (on a voluntary basis) with groups of local residents and landowners for the restoration of public roads that are lightly trafficked, single lane or cul de sac roads and may also link two local primary roads or two local secondary roads.

Eligible works fall into four categories: General, Drainage Works, Pavement Works and Footpaths.
