N52 and L-5524 at the Robinstown Little Junction

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council having given the required notice of intention has now decided to temporarily CLOSE to public traffic the following roads for the period and reason specified below.  

Road Subject of Proposed Closure

N52 and L-5524 at the Robinstown Little Junction.

Alternative Routes/Detour:

Delvin to Clonmellon via N51 Athboy and R154 Johnsbrook

The works are programmed to be carried out between the 7th September 2026 and the 18th September 2026.

The works will take two days to complete. The roads will be closed from 8am to 6pm.

Roadside variable message boards will be erected nearer the construction date to provide advanced notification.

Detour signage will be in place.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate the Road Surface Treatment Works.

N55 Creggy, Co. Westmeath to Rathmore Co. Longford - from the R390 at Ballykeeran, Co Westmeath to Ballymahon, Co. Longford.

N55 Creggy, Co. Westmeath to Rathmore Co. Longford - from the R390 at Ballykeeran, Co Westmeath to Ballymahon, Co. Longford.

Period of Proposed Closure

Intermittently from 4^th August 2026 until 4^th September 2026.

The works will be carried out between the hours of 8:00am and 20:00pm Monday to Friday, over a 5-week period during the Temporary Road Closure period and at all other times the road will remain open. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained.

Reason for Proposed Closure

To facilitate Pavement Management Improvement Roadworks on the N55 between Creggy and Rathmore.

Alternative Routes

Traffic travelling north along the N55 towards Glasson shall divert via the R390 before Ballykeeran to Loughnavalley and then turn left onto the regional road R389 to its junction with the regional road R392 at Skeagh Beg Cross then turn left onto regional road R392 to its junction with the N55 at Ballymahon.

Traffic intending to travel south on the N55 from Ballymahon shall divert via the R392 to Skeagh Beg Cross and then turn right onto regional road R389 to its junction with the R390 at Loughnavalley then turn right onto regional road R390. Traffic shall continue along the R390 and re-join the N55.

Local access arrangements will be in place. All diversions will be signposted.

A Contractor on behalf of the Municipal District of Athlone-Moate (Westmeath County Council) will be carrying out surfacing works on The Strand car park, Athlone.

Access to parking in The Strand car park will be suspended for this period.

A Traffic Management Plan will be in place and local access will be permitted. We request that residents exercise extreme caution when entering/exiting their premises.

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS NOTICE

A Contractor on behalf of the Municipal District of Athlone-Moate (Westmeath County Council) will be carrying out surfacing works on the Deerpark Road in Athlone on the 12^th of March 2026 between 8am and 5pm.

A temporary diversion will be in place during the works.

5pm 12^th of March 2026 

Notice is hereby given that a contractor working on behalf of Westmeath County Council will be carrying out paving works at Market Square adjacent to Athlone Castle. 

To facilitate these works it will be necessary to close the southern footpath on the Athlone Town Bridge(R446) and the footpaths adjacent to Athlone Castle to facilitate these works.

Alternative pedestrian routes will be signposted.

Westmeath County Council wishes to inform you of our intention to carry out essential renewal works on the existing greenway. These works are necessary to maintain and improve the quality and safety of the greenway for all users.

The works are scheduled to begin on 6th October 2025 and are expected to last approximately 2 weeks on the following two sections.

1. The proposed works are on the stretch between Moate station and 2.5km east of Moate station, Ballybeg bog, between marker post 17km and 18km along the old rail trail.
2. Tully access point and carpark halfway between Moate station and Athlone Garrycastle.
