The N4 transportation corridor between Mullingar and Roosky, County Longford forms part of the key Dublin to Sligo National Primary route (part of Trans-European Network for Transport). This scheme forms part of Project Ireland 2040 and is included in the National Development Plan 2021 – 2030.
The project has been progressing through the early planning and design phases and is currently at the Option Selection phase. Public Consultation meetings were held in July 2024 at venues in Longford, Mullingar and Edgeworthstown where the project team presented the emerging preferred route corridor (EPRC) to the public. The project team are in the process of compiling and incorporating public feedback and finalising the Option Selection Report. The Option Selection Report will be published, and the report and the Preferred Route Corridor (PRC) will be made available on the N4 website in Q1 2025.
The next phase of the project, Detailed Design and Environmental Evaluation will commence thereafter, subject to TII approval and funding.
