Variation No. 5 to the Westmeath County Development Plan - incorporating the Westmeath County Retail Strategy 2019-2026


Proposed Variation No. 5 which provides for the incorporation of the Westmeath County Retail Strategy 2019-2026 into the Westmeath County Development Plan 2014-2020.

The Westmeath County Retail Strategy pertains to all lands contained within the administrative boundary of Co. Westmeath. However, please note that a separate strategy which is consistent with this County Strategy has been prepared for Athlone, by way of a Joint Retail Strategy which was commissioned by Roscommon and Westmeath County Councils and is currently on public display also.

The aim of the Westmeath County Retail Strategy 2019-2026 is to continue to sustain and improve the retail profile and competitiveness of County Westmeath, through the consolidation and environmental enhancement of town centres and settlements and by improving the quality and choice of retail developments on offer. Note: The variation proposed does not include changes to the overall development strategy or land use zoning changes.
This proposed Strategy, if adopted will supercede the current Retail Strategy for Co. Westmeath (2007).

Public Inspection Point:

A copy of the proposed Variation together with the associated documentation (including SEA and AA Screenings and Determinations) are available for inspection at: Áras an Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath and Athlone Municipal District, Civic Offices, Athlone, Co. Westmeath from Friday 1st February 2019 until Wednesday 20th March 2019. It is also available for inspection on the following website: www.westmeathcoco.ie/planning/itemsonpublicdisplay.

Closing Date for receipt of Submissions or Observations is Wednesday 20th March 2019 at 5pm.
Submissions or observations on the proposed Variation should be made via email to countyretail@westmeathcoco.ie.  Submissions made via email must include the full name and address of the person making the submission and where relevant, the body or organisation represented.
Please mark your submission clearly as follows:
• “Submission - Variation No. 5 Westmeath Development Plan 2014-2020”.

Written submissions or observations in relation to the proposed variation may also be submitted to the Administrative Officer, Forward Planning Department, Westmeath County Council, Áras an Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar before 5.00pm on Wednesday 20th March 2019.
Submissions or observations should be made via one medium only i.e. email or hard copy.
All submissions or observations made within said period will be taken into consideration before the making of a decision in respect of the respective Variation and Amendment processes.

Data Protection

All submissions should include your name and a contact address, and where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company etc., which you represent.
To assist Westmeath County Council in complying with data protection legislation, you are asked to provide this information on a separate sheet.
Written submissions or observations received may be published on the Councils website.
Details, including the names of those making submissions may be shared with other Local Authorities, relevant Council departments and or the Council’s professional advisers for the purpose of making the Variation may form part of reports linked to the making of the Variation and/or the Amendment. This processing of your personal data is lawful under Article 6 (1)(e) of the GDPR regulations.
