The Westmeath County Retail Strategy pertains to all lands contained within the administrative boundary of Co. Westmeath, including Mullingar. However, please note that a separate statutory Local Area Plan (LAP) which is consistent with the County Development Plan was adopted for Mullingar in 2014. Having regard to this, Westmeath County Council proposes to amend its LAP for Mullingar and incorporate the County Retail Strategy for the period 2019-2026 into the existing plan.
The aim of the Westmeath County Retail Strategy 2019-2026 is to continue to sustain and improve the retail profile and competitiveness of County Westmeath, through the consolidation and environmental enhancement of town centres and settlements (including Mullingar) and by improving the quality and choice of retail developments on offer. Note: The amendment proposed does not include changes to the overall development strategy or land use zoning changes for Mullingar.
This proposed Strategy, if adopted will supercede the current Retail Strategy for Co. Westmeath (2007).

A copy of the proposed Amendment together with the associated documentation (including SEA and AA Screenings and Determinations) are available for inspection at: Áras an Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath and Athlone Municipal District, Civic Offices, Athlone, Co. Westmeath from Friday 1st February 2019 until Wednesday 20th March 2019.
