‌‌Cemetery Maintenance Grant 2023

As set out in the Cemetery Policy adopted by Westmeath County Council in May 2017, a scheme of Community Cemetery Maintenance Grants has been introduced to contribute financially to local groups who carry out cemetery maintenance/improvement works and incur expenses associated with their local cemetery.  A grant up to a maximum of €750 may be made available to successful applicants.

It is envisaged that only a limited number of local committees can be grant aided in any one year therefore it will be necessary to prioritise on the basis of:-
1.1    Proven maintenance needs of cemetery
1.2    Available financial or resource contribution from the Community
1.3    Presence of an active committee
1.4    Appropriate Work Programme
1.5    Compliance with the requirements of Councils Municipal District, Heritage Officer, National Monuments Service and National Parks & Wildlife

Late applications cannot be considered.

Please note that your local cemetery may be subject to the National Monuments Act or may be a protected structure under the Planning Act and therefore you may need specialist advice if undertaking any works other than routine maintenance.
