Application for Burials

The Funeral Director or family should contact the relevant Municipal District, who will assist in identifying an existing family plot or available new plot, as required.

Burial plots cannot be pre-purchased. Requests for plots can be made to the district office once a person has passed. At that time, you will have the option to purchase a single or double plot.

Application for Headstones

The Stonemason should complete a Headstone Application form in respect of headstone or other permanent structure and should submit it to Municipal District and an invoice is issued. Permit for erection of headstone costs €50.

Exhumation licence

Westmeath County Council administers exhumation licences (removal of remains). An application form should be completed and submitted to the Environment Department.
