Geotechnical Unit
The Geotechnical Unit of Westmeath County Council commenced operations in 1981 and was set up originally to cater for the requirements of the Mullingar bypass and various other schemes within the county.
The Laboratory has since progressed from strength to strength and now carries out work for other Local Authorities, Consultants, Contractors and private individuals throughout the country.
The Soils and Bituminous Laboratories are sited within a purpose built unit and a full range of services is provided. All aspects of civil engineering materials can be tested, ranging from concrete products to granular materials for road construction as well as soils recovered from investigations.
This laboratory is one of the best equipped in the country and the following is a list of some of the services provided by the Unit:
