In addition to the services provided to children in our branch libraries, Westmeath County Council and Department of Education have traditionally sponsored a Library Service to Primary Schools.
With the withdrawal of the DES grant in 2009, we are unable to sustain the the Mobile Library Service to the Primary Schools.
However, teachers in Primary Schools are still able to avail of stock from the Primary School Service.
The Service has a wide range of books to suit all age groups & abilities. All subject areas are covered such as general fiction consisting of picture books, easy readers, classic and popular fiction. In addition, there are non-fiction and reference books for all interests. The Service also holds literacy books for learning support teachers and a developing collection of dual language books.
Teachers are welcome to contact Library HQ to source materials from the collection. We are happy to receive lists of general material required which can be boxed and picked up at Library HQ or dropped into the nearest Branch Library.
In addition, teachers are welcome to arrange class visits on a scheduled basis to their local branch library.
The service is a valued link between the Library Service and the Schools and we hope to work together going forward to foster and sustain literacy in Westmeath. . For further information, contact:
