You are requested to attend the October Monthly Meeting of Athlone Municipal District which will be held in the Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone at 3.00p.m. Monday, 2nd October 2017.

 

AGENDA

 

  1. Votes of congratulations/sympathy.

 

  1. To approve the Minutes of the September Monthly Meeting held on 4th September 2017.

 

  1. Matters arising.

 

  1. To agree date for Civic Address of Recognition to Joe Ward, gold medal winner at the European Boxing Championships.

 

  1. To receive a report on the commencement of a Part 8 Planning Process for a modified Cycleway in the vicinity of and within the grounds of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Athlone.

 

  1. To receive an update on Athlone Flood Alleviation Scheme.

 

  1. To consider report on the enhancement of the Roscommon Road Junction at Baylough.

 

  1. To consider report on enhanced maintenance of the public realm in the centre of Athlone.

 

  1. To receive an update on the Acquisition of Lands for the Railway Field Road.

 

  1. To receive an update of Church St enhancement.

 

  1. To consider Invitation to the Mayor to attend the 2018 St.Patrick’s Day Parade in Providence, USA.

  1. Motions:

 

a)      Cllr Tom Farrell: “That Athlone Municipal District would write to the Minister for Communications and Natural Resources requesting an exemption for Resident Associations and Community Groups from the Standing Charge for power who only use power for lighting on festive occasions eg Christmas lights.”

 

b)      Cllr Tom Farrell: “That this Athlone Municipal District carry out junction improvements and improve right turning site lines at L5347 on the R390 between Ballymore and Bridge of Crush”.

 

c)      Cllr Tom Farrell: “That this Athlone Municipal District carryout urgent repairs at Rath boreen Kilkennywest Glasson”.

 

d)     Cllr Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District liaise with Athlone Chamber and the business community in Athlone with a view to implementing a new modern Christmas Lights display”.

 

e)      Cllr Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District install traffic calming measure in Sli an Aifrinn, Athlone in the interest of public safety”.

 

f)       Cllr Michael O’Brien: “That Athlone Municipal District set aside funding in it's 2018 budget for the provision of public lighting along the urban stretch of Greenway in Moate between the Railway Station grounds and Lake road”.

 

g)      Cllr Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District write to the Minister of Social Protection to ask him to reinstate the Bereavement grant with immediate effect”.

 

h)      Cllr Ailish McManus: “That this Municipal District remove the double yellow lines in Bloomfield Drive, Athlone”.

 

i)        Cllr Ailish McManus “That this Municipal District write to the Minister for Transportation and request him to provide National Guidelines for the making of By Laws for the operation of Greenways”.

 

j)        Cllr Frankie Keena “That Athlone Municipal District erect a number of bollards on the footpath on the town side of the Topaz Garage in Moate in the interest of public safety”.

 

k)      Cllr Frankie Keena “That Athlone Municipal District assign a site and assist with the provision of necessary services to the Ashdale / Woodlands Residents Association for the location of a steel portacabin for the residents to use as a base for meetings, community work and Men Shed activities”.

 

l)        Cllr Frankie Keena “That Athlone Municipal District identify a number of key locations around the periphery of Athlone to provide public seating as places of rest for the general public”.

 

m)    Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to explore the possibility of pedestrianising the road around the quays/docks area going from Main Street to the back of Sean's Bar and allowing only early morning access to vehicles for deliveries and to report back to this council in due course”.

 

n)      Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to examine the junction where the Waterstown Road meets the N55 to see if sight-lines can be improved as it is proving to be a very difficult and dangerous junction for motorists.”

 

o)      Cllr Aengus O’Rourke “For this Municipal District to examine the possibility of building a two story extension to the southern end of the Luan Gallery, between the Fr Matthew Hall and the bridge in order to extend the gallery and also provide a restaurant space overlooking the river”.

 

p)     Cllr Paul Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District, in collaboration with other stakeholders, provide blue lighting at suicide hotspots as they are known to have a calming effect for people with mental health issues”.

 

q)      Cllr Paul Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District contact the Minister for Housing Planning and Local Government to highlight exorbitant fees charged by Management Companies in apartment complexes”.

 

r)       Cllr Paul Hogan “That Athlone Municipal District contact the relevant authority to repair panels at the bus shelter near Valleycourt”.
