Local Improvement Schemes 2018
Westmeath County Council intends to implement a Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) in 2018, subject to;
Type of works
A Local Improvement Scheme is a scheme for carrying out improvement works on private/non-public roads.
The proposed works must be necessary and not simply maintenance of the kind that applicants could do themselves.
The local contribution is an integral part of the Local Improvements Scheme. The contribution shall be 10% for eligible roads with up to and including 5 residents and 15% for those with 6 or more residents.
Applications may be submitted in respect to roads that lead to important community amenities such as graveyards, beaches, piers or other tourist/heritage sites where the contribution is provided by the LA itself.
These roads may not take up more than 25% of the value of the overall request.
Free labour or materials are not acceptable as part of the contribution by local residents but may be included as part of the LA contribution where amenity type roads are being included.
Eligible roads are non-public roads, often leading to houses and important community amenities such as graveyards, beaches, piers, mountains, etc. or other non-public roads that provide access to parcels of land, or provide access for harvesting purposes (including turf or seaweed) for two or more persons.
There must be more than 1 landholder on an LIS road and the road must be open to the public.
