Contract Signing between Westmeath County Council and OCC Construction for 24 Dwelling Units at Greally Park, Athlone, County Westmeath
Contracts were signed between Westmeath County Council and OCC Construction for the construction of 24 Dwelling Units, associated parking, public open space, and site development works at Greally Park, Athlone, Co. Westmeath. Construction is due to commence in July 2023.
The project is being delivered under “Housing for All” and will provide 24 new homes. The development will consist of one and two-bedroom units including ten two-bedroom houses, a single one-bedroom house, and thirteen one and two-bed apartments. The scheme is located adjacent to 33-unit Esker Park social housing project which was completed in Arcadia in 2020. The houses and public open space face onto the Arcadia Road with the new apartment building enclosing the northeast corner of the site creating a private amenity courtyard space and allowing for a southern aspect for the apartment units.
The development is being named Greally Park, after Hanna Greally, the late Athlone native who wrote a memorable book about her experience of being incarcerated in St.Loman's Psychiatric Hospital in Mullingar.
All houses are designed to nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) standard and use the latest Air-to-Water heating technology. Each home includes a wet room at ground floor level suitable for assisted showering. The house units will also be fitted with photo voltaic panels providing harvested energy from the sun to help meet the electrical demands of the home.
The main contractor for the project is OCC Construction who are based in Galway Retail Park, Headford Road, Galway, who won the contract by public competitive tender process.
The scheme at Greally Park is designed by Westmeath County Council’s in-house architectural team with the assistance of Jennings O’Donovan Consulting Engineers, CuddyQS Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Hayes Higgins Partnership, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
