Mullingar Road Closures – Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2023

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS – ROADS ACT 1993

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given of the intention of Westmeath County Council to temporarily close the following roads for the period and reason specified below: 

MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF MULLINGAR KINNEGAD

Roads Subject to Proposed Closures:

The following street closures and restrictions will apply:

• Dominick Street

• Mount Street

• Oliver Plunkett Street

• Pearse Street

• Austin Friar Street Lower

• Spout Well Lane

• Castle Street

• Southern end of Harbour Street

• Church Avenue

• Church Lane

• Blackhall Street

• Blackhall Place to Town Band Hall

• Blackhall

• Mount Street Gardens

• Goal Hill

• Auburn Road

• Mary Street

• The Green Bridge to Railway Station

• The Green Bridge

• Railway Row

• Grove Street

• Dominick Place

• Martins Lane

• Bishopsgate Street

• College Street

• Eastern end of Patrick Street

• Southern end of Green Road

• Western end of Friars Mill Road

 

 

Period of Closure:

All of these roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 in the morning on Sunday 6 August 2023 until 4 in the morning on Tuesday 15 August 2023. Parking will not be permitted on these streets during this time. Barriers will be placed preventing vehicles from entering these streets, supervised as required. Servicing of premises will be permitted each morning between the hours of 4am and 10am during which time premises can organise deliveries, maintenance etc. Vehicular access to the pedestrianised areas (streets listed above) will be fully restricted and enforced.

Note: Vehicles remaining in these zones after 10 in the morning will be towed away by a nominated tow-truck operator.

Camp Site – Rathcolman:

A one-way system will be in operation along the L1137 at Rathcolman with no turning permitted from R392 onto L1137. Access to this road will be from R390 only.

A special speed limit of 50kph will apply during this period.

 

Reasons for Proposed Closures:

•To facilitate Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2023 in Mullingar.

•To facilitate access to and from the official Fleadh Camp Site. 

A map indicating the location of the road closures and diversions may be viewed on Westmeath County Council's Website at here, and the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad Office. 

Alternative Routes:

During the Fleadh motorists will be required to traverse the outer orbital route (N52 Bypass, Joe Dolan Bridge, Western Bypass and N4 etc.) or via the Robinstown Link Road. Parking will not be permitted on any of these streets during the dates and times above.

 

Signs will be placed at the major junctions around Mullingar Town informing motorists of the above closures.
