Westmeath County Council and Creative Ireland are supporting a live music event to be streamed online via the Visit Westmeath Facebook page. ‘Alp Luachra’ are an aspiring Traditional Irish music band with a blend of rock, covering a wide variety of Irish classics. They will be performing outdoors at Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park and the event will be streamed on Saturday 26th June 2021 at 9.30pm. The event follows similar initiatives in 2020, including performances by The Blizzards at Tullynally Castle Gardens, The Academic at Belvedere House, Gardens and Park and Tonic House Collective at Kilbeggan Distillery. The events aim to capture the attention of a worldwide online audience, helping to showcase Westmeath and its iconic visitor attractions, along with the county’s home-grown musical talent.
Alp Luachra formed in 2018, taking their name from a mythical Irish creature. Their five members are Kenny Rabbitt on vocals & guitar, John Byrne on guitar & banjo, Wayne Gibney, Bass, Wayne Walsh on drums and Enda Seery on flute and whistles. The group began performing in local live music venues around Mullingar and played at the Hill of Uisneach, celebrating the Bealtaine Celebration in 2019 and later that same year took to the stage at the Electric Picnic.
This online event will be set in the backdrop of Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park, as the next attraction in a series of locations being showcased through the live music streamed events. Located in Moate, just off the Old Rail Trail greenway, Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park includes a fantastic playground, outdoor art displays, guided heritage tours and genealogy as well as a great locally run café with outdoor seating overlooking the park and play areas. According to Úna Doris, Tourism Officer, ‘the events offer a fantastic opportunity to showcase our attractions to a new audience and to support and celebrate our local talented musicians’.
Alp Luachra’s event will be created using seven manned cameras, a fully-licensed drone, staging and lights and will have a low-key, intimate feel. The events are directed and produced by Mark Bennett of www.crosscut.ie and a team of local industry professionals, including Frank Byrne and Robbie Burzwaza on sound, Lee Bracken, Paul Plunkett, Shane Gorry, Tom Hore, Mick Bracken, Joe Brennan and John McMahon on cameras, Arthur Stones and Theodore Stones on staging and lighting and Fiona Fitzgerald on PR & Production.

Following the success of last weeks’ live music stream from Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park, Westmeath County Council & Creative Ireland are supporting a further event featuring local Midlands band KinetiX. This event will take place at Killua Castle, Clonmellon, streamed live on the Visit Westmeath Facebook page on Saturday the 3rd of July 2021 at 9.30pm. The two latest events follow similar initiatives in 2020, including performances by The Blizzards at Tullynally Castle Gardens, The Academic and Bobby and the Blunts at Belvedere House, Gardens and Park and Tonic House Collective at Kilbeggan Distillery. The events aim to capture the attention of a worldwide online audience, helping to showcase Westmeath and its iconic visitor attractions, along with home-grown musical talent from the Midlands.
Killua Castle dates from the 1780s and has links to T.E. Lawrence and Sir Walter Raleigh. The historic site was refurbished in recent years with tours of the castle and grounds now offered. Úna Doris, Tourism Officer with Westmeath County Council said, ‘this event will offer a fantastic opportunity to showcase a lesser-known visitor attraction to a new audience and to support and celebrate an up-and-coming group of talented Midlands musicians.’
KinetiX are a relatively new band which are gaining increasing popularity with a young audience. They’ve been played on local and national radio and are dubbed to be one of Ireland's biggest emerging bands. The band comprises three Stones brothers; Arthur on drums, Ademar on keys/synths, and Theodore on vocals. They amalgamate a variety of elements from differing genres into their music to create their unique style of pop music. Promising to be a spectacular show, filmed during the golden hour of sunset, drone footage will illustrate the vastness of the fully lit historical site of Killua Castle and nearby Clonmellon. The scene will see a setting of synchronized lighting and smoke within the grounds of Killua Castle with KinetiX set to do something that has never been done before using seven cameras and a fully licensed drone.
