The upcoming International Week of Deaf People will take place from Monday 18 - Sunday 24 September 2023. The International Week of Deaf People, led by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), is celebrated through various activities by Deaf Communities all around the world. The theme for this year is ‘A World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign Anywhere’.

 

International Day of Sign Languages falls on Saturday 23 September, and on this day the WFD celebrates the Blue Light for Sign Languages Event, aiming to highlight the unity brought by the shared experience of national sign languages. This event aims to unite the world, its citizens, communities, and societies through the blue light.

 

The Irish Deaf Society are asking you to light up your landmark in blue on Saturday 23 September. The past few years have seen many locations light up in blue and it has always been a huge boost and celebration for deaf people to see their local landmarks celebrate with them. To colourfully harmonise this Blue Light On Sign Languages initiative, the WFD recommends using this blue reference: #007EC4.
