Creative Ireland gets off the ground in Westmeath with the launch of a grant scheme to develop a programme of events as part of the Creative Ireland Programme 2017 – 2022.
The Creative Ireland Programme is an all-of-government initiative that aims to embed the idea and the realisation of true creativity across all strands of society. At its heart is collaboration – between central and local government, between culture and industry, between artists and policy makers – to facilitate an ecosystem of creativity.
Westmeath County Council recognises the best way to nurture the creative imagination is through active engagement with arts and culture. Promoting creativity is widely acknowledged as contributing positively to individual wellbeing, social cohesion and economic success.
Westmeath County Council has just launched a grant scheme to provide support to local and community groups, artistic and creative practitioners, event organisers and those involved in creative activities and projects- that will encourage cultural participation throughout Westmeath. This fund is open to not-for-profit organizations, local community groups, arts, heritage and cultural groups, venues and societies.
Westmeath’s Creative Ireland Coordinator Miriam Mulrennan (Arts Officer) says of the new scheme “this is a welcome initiative that looks to acknowledge and support the role that creativity plays in our everyday lives. The legacy from the activities that took place around our celebrations in 2016, was that of a deepened understanding of our capacity as citizens to respond to a call for meaningful creative expression. Creative Ireland aims to build on that legacy, and in year 1 we hope to start off with a modest programme of events and activities – that place participation at their heart, and from there - look to grow a more robust and sustainable programme over the next 5 years”.
An initial workshop took place mid March in Moate, where members of the public got the opportunity to hear from the national Creative Ireland Team, and feedback from the public was positive and lively.
The nominal amount of funding to any one project will typically be between €500 and €2,500 and applications received will be assessed based on an agreed selection criteria.
Applications for grants should be received by Westmeath County Council prior to 28th April 2017.
