A More Inclusive Politics for Westmeath!

Westmeath County Council are delighted to present their project video and booklet entitled: A More Inclusive Politics for Westmeath!

The aim of this project is to encourage more women and people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the 2024 Local Elections in Westmeath. The printed booklet (which is also available on our website) and video (which can be accessed on our YouTube Channel and social media pages) offer advice and guidance on the supports available to you as a potential candidate in the local elections. They also detail the experiences of some of our councillors to give you an insight into the role, challenges, and opportunities that it can present.

The booklet will also give you a breakdown of the structure, layout, and organisation of the Council, whilst conveying why it is crucial that we realise a greater level of gender representation and minority participation in our local government structures to ensure that the future of politics in Westmeath is more inclusive, balanced, and better informed. To assist those that may be unfamiliar with our electoral system, information for voters has also been included in the booklet, starting with how you can register to vote. The Council will continue to engage with the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage to apply for funding for future proposals that will be integral to this project.
