Westmeath County Council, County Buildings, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath


Westmeath County Council proposes to abstract water from Lough Ennell for the purpose of supplying water to the Royal Canal.

In accordance with Section 175  of the Planning and Development Act 2000- 2010 and the planning and Development Regulations 2010, notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council proposes to seek approval from An Bord Pleanala for the proposed development outlined below.

Outline of Proposed Development
The development consists of a surface water abstraction from Lough Ennell in the Townland of Ladestown from where it is proposed to pump water to discharge to the Royal Canal at Kilpatrick Bridge. The development will provide a maximum of 43,636 cubic metres (9.6 million gallons) in any 24 hour period.

An Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development. A Stage 1 Screening and Stage 2 Appropriate Assessment have also been carried out.

The Bord may give approval to the application for development with or without conditions or may refuse the application for development.

A copy of the Environmental Impact Statement, Screening Document and Appropriate Assessment may be inspected at the County Buildings, Mullingar between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday for the period ending 25th November 2011.

Submissions and observations may be made to An Bord Pleanála during the above period with regard to:
(I)    the implications of the proposed development for proper planning and sustainable development in the area concerned
(II)    the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development

A fee of €50 is applicable to submissions or observations made to An Bord Pleanála.

A person may question the validity of a decision of the Bord by way of an application for judicial review, under Order 84 of the rules of the Superior Courts (S.I. No.15 of 1986).
