N55 Ballykeerin Bypass Road Improvement Scheme

In 2023, following publication of the Preferred Route Corridor (PRC), Westmeath County Council decided to advance the N55 Athlone to Ballymahon scheme incrementally. Funding was sought to advance the first two sections as the N55 Ballykeeran Bypass and the N55 Glasson Bypass. In 2024 funding of €200,000, was secured to progress the N55 Ballykeeran Bypass.

Topographical, LiDAR, Orthographic and utility surveys were carried out in early 2024. Consultants, WS Atkins, have been procured to progress Phase 3 - Design and Environmental Evaluation. This phase is expected to take 14 months. Phase 4 – Statutory Processes – will commence following completion of the Phase 3 Deliverables and respective approvals to proceed.
