Transportation Annual Works Programme

The Transportation Annual Works Programme provides funding and investment for the continued maintenance and improvement in our public road network in Co Westmeath.

Current Road Closures and Diversions

L-1902 - from the junction with the L-1811 at Kilbixy to the junction with the L-5920 at Rathaspick

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council has decided to temporarily CLOSE to public traffic the following road for the period and reason specified below: -

Reason for Proposed Closure

  • To facilitate emergency repairs to Ballycorkey Bridge.

Alternative Routes
Traffic travelling south shall divert along the L-1902 to its junction with the N4, turning right onto N4 and travelling towards Bunbrosna before turning right southbound and following the diversion route past Bunbrosna GAA club towards the L-1902.

Traffic travelling north shall divert to the right along the L-1811 at Kilbixy following the diversion route towards Bunbrosna passing Bunbrosna GAA club and turning left onto the N4 in Bunbrosna, travelling along the N4 and turning left at the junction with the L-1902.

Local access arrangements will be in place. All diversions will be signposted.

From 7am Tuesday 18th March 2025 until 6pm Monday 17th April 2025.

Link road from the Delvin Road to the roundabout on R394 at Robinstown

Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council having given the required notice of intention has now decided to temporarily CLOSE to public traffic the following roads for the period and reason specified below.

Alternative Routes/Detour:

Detour signage will be in place.

Reason for Proposed Closure:

  • To facilitate road realignment works and associated new cycleway works, footpaths and pedestrian crossing.
This road shall be closed from 7am on 7th April 2025 until 6pm on the 2nd May 2025.
The Quay(South), Athlone (L-8015-0)

Notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council has now decided to CLOSE to public traffic, the road’s described hereunder between the dates shown to facilitate works for the Athlone Main Drainage Project.

Alternative Routes Available:

  • Main Street (L-4019-0) to Saint Peter's Port (L-8014-0)

Griffith Street, Athlone (L-8018-0)

Notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council has now decided to CLOSE to public traffic, the road’s described hereunder between the dates shown to facilitate works for the Athlone Main Drainage Scheme Works.

Alternative Routes Available:

  • Church Street/Old N6 (R-446-376) to Strand Street (L-8023-0) to The Strand (L-8024-0)

02nd December 2024 to the 22nd February 2025. 24 hours daily.
Connaught Street, Athlone

Due to emergency works in Connaught Street Athlone, a one-way traffic system will be in place in Connaught Street on Thursday 19 December 2024 between the hours 9:45hrs to 16:00hrs.

East bound traffic will be diverted via the R446 Galway Road, Castle Street, High Street, Bastion Street and O'Connell Street.

N62 Overbridge between the eastbound and westbound roundabouts at N6 Junction 8

Please Note that Westmeath County Council, having given the required notice of intention has now decided to close to public traffic the roads described hereunder to facilitate Road Rehabilitation and Surfacing.

Alternative Routes Available:

  • Eastbound On – Diverted N62, R446 to M6 J7
  • Eastbound Off (Div 1) – Diverted N6 J9, R916, R446
  • Eastbound Off (Div 2) – Diverted M6 J7, R446, N62
