Schemes & Projects

Westmeath County Council is the Road Authority for the public road network in the County and is continually working to maintain and upgrade these roads.

National Roads Major Projects

The Transportation and Planning Section together with the Strategic Policy Committee and the full Council establish the policy for roads in the County. Delivery of road services is provided as follows:

Transport 21

Transport 21 is the largest investment ever in Ireland’s transport system. From 2006 to 2015, €34 billion is being invested to deliver a world-class transport system.

Significant work is underway, and planned for the future, which will transform Ireland’s national roads, rail and bus services, and regional airports. Already, substantial improvements have been delivered. Transport 21 – It’s a better quality of life, better business and a better future for everyone.
