Roads & Transport
The aim of Westmeath County Council is to provide and develop transportation and infrastructural networks for sustainable, environmental, economic and balanced regional development purposes.
Roads are the dominant mode of transport in Ireland and therefore of critical importance to our every day life. Westmeath County Council is the Road Authority for the public road network in the County and therefore has a duty to maintain these roads.
Local Improvement Schemes
This Scheme allows work to be undertaken on non-public roads catering mainly for access to land holdings and farm residencies.

Mullingar Cycle Network
In October 2009 Westmeath County Council was successful in securing a grant from the Gateways and Hubs European Regional Development Fund Grants Scheme for creating 20km of high quality of cycle lanes.
