Westmeath Libraries & Creative Ireland

Westmeath Libraries and Creative Ireland

1.   Strange Days Indeed

During the lockdown, Westmeath Libraries sought creative expressions from the community which acknowledged their responses to the crisis. This project aims to create a digital publication of the stories, art and poetry received by the library.  We have organised that the submission be put together as a booklet and as a digital publication. This video will be available on our website and on our social media platforms.

 2.   Creative Bursts

STEAM programme – is a Lifelong learning and Community engagement.

The programme aims to increase community interest in STEAM activities and literature. We are creating Tech Labs in both Athlone and Mullingar branches. These tech labs will have facilities and technologies that we are hoping will enable creativity in our community and will encourage STEAM interests in our younger members.

Both branches will have a set of Occulus Rift S VR Headsets, there will be LEGO Robotics kits, Raspberry pi & Arduino starter kits, MaKey MaKeys sets for designer your own controllers, Harry Potter coding Kits for all the other magic that happens in Makerspaces. These technologies will inspire and educate people of all ages. We will create videos and guides to help people use our new equipment, this will be encouraged with having a designated space called The Tech Lab in Athlone and Mullingar branches. We are hoping to reach a wide range of people and capabilities and support their interests in STEAM. These Tech Labs will offer a flexible Makerspace, where people can be creative, collaborate, share, develop ideas, innovate, and generally just ‘make stuff’. These spaces will be available to book to the public, schools etc. We also aim to provide a STEAM program of events both in house and online. These will be workshops and tutorials on STEAM related subjects everything from coding, literacy, building, engineering, art, music, science, filming, maths, podcasts and lots lots more.
