The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is available to assist in the carrying out of works which are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability who has an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment.

You can apply for the grant by completing the application form below and returning it to your local Municipal District Office in either Mullingar-Kinnegad or Athlone-Moate.
Westmeath County Council administer the Housing Grants Scheme under the Terms and Guidelines as set by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. All applications are assessed based on the information provided and criteria set out in the Scheme. If an applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the Local Authority, they may appeal the decision. Please see below regarding the appeals process.
If you are dissatisfied with the decision of this local authority, you may submit a written appeal on any decision notified to you within 3 weeks of the date of the decision, stating the reasons for the appeal. The appeal will be considered and adjudicated upon within 4 weeks of receipt. A decision on the appeal will be notified to each applicant within 2 weeks of the decision being made. Appeals should be submitted in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Housing Section, Westmeath County Council, Mullingar.
If you remain unhappy with our response to your appeal, then you can refer your complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman is fair, independent, and free to use.
