Regional Waste Management Plan
Nearly half a million tonnes of household, commercial / industrial, construction and demolition waste is generated in the Midlands Region every year. The five Local Authorities, Laois, Longford, North Tipperary, Offaly and Westmeath, have worked together to prepare a Waste Management Plan for the Midlands Region for the period 2005 - 2010.
An evaluation has commenced of each Regional Waste Management Plan and, consequent on these evaluations, plans will be revised or replaced as necessary to comply with the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) as transposed through European Communities (Waste Directive) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 126 of 2011). The existing Regional Waste Management Plans must be evaluated by 31 December 2012.
