Climate Action Plan 2024-2029

In order to ensure this sustainable future for the citizens of Westmeath, the Council prepared this Climate Action Plan for the period 2024 to 2029 to strive to create a low carbon County through targeted actions to promote positive Climate initiatives in County Westmeath. This Plan was adopted by the elected members on 13th March 2024.

The ambition of this Plan is in line with the Government's National Climate Objective, which seeks to transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy by 2050. The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 sets out Ireland's climate ambition, a legally binding ambition to achieve a 51% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
