Last year, Westmeath County Council distributed in excesses of €250,000 to community & voluntary groups in the form of grants and awards. This is because the Council recognise the work that the Community & Voluntary sector carry out on a day to day basis and believes that this grouping is one of the most important sectors in the county as they contribute to the quality of life of all citizens in our county.

Now, more than ever groups require some support and assistance in delivering their services and projects in the community. Hence, Westmeath County Council will again be rolling out the Cathaoirleach Awards in 2012.

The categories listed below attempt to capture the diverse nature of the activities undertaken at ground level; in the area of community & voluntary activity in Westmeath. This activity is vital to sustaining an ethos of active citizenship in our county. The Cathaoirleach Awards go some way to recognising the involvement of individuals in their communities, how they can influence others to become involved and active in their communities.

We congratulate all that have been involved and continue to be involved and hope that you accept our sincere appreciation.

We look forward to meeting you at our 6th annual Cathaoirleach Awards event which will take place in Belvedere House, Gardens and Park, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
