LAIT Westmeath are one of the many new teams set up in local authorities around the country to help people living in IPAS accommodation find and use the services in their area. The teams not only support International protection applicants but also people with status, those on the Irish Refugee Protection Programme and Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection.
The main job of the LAITs is to help people find and use local services, such as healthcare, education, employment and community activities. Here's how LAIT teams can help:

Integration has been defined as the ability to participate to the extent that a person needs and wishes in all major components of society without having to relinquish his or her own cultural identity. The aim of the Local Authority Integration team is to empower individuals to ultimately live independently in the community in which they reside.
LAIT is in place to support new arrivals into communities, we can meet you at accommodation centres to identify supports needed to help integrate into the community. This can include group information sessions, clinics, one to ones with individuals to understand their specific support needs. We provide clinics onsite at accommodation centres, in the community, online or where required.
