Westmeath County Council provides a range of Grants to community groups to assist with actions and projects being undertaken in their local area. These grants are intended to sustain community activity and active citizenship. The range of grants available under the Community Grants 2017 are:
The purpose of the scheme is to encourage and support local community and voluntary groups to continue to develop and implement community initiatives that have a positive impact on their area and on the County This Community Grant Scheme involves three general categories of Grant as follows:
The Scheme will fund projects that seek to enhance communities, address disadvantage and improve social cohesion at a local level. It will seek to address some of the difficulties local community groups face in terms of accessing very often small scale levels of funding to match their own fundraising efforts, in order to get community projects off the ground. the funding available under the Scheme is for capital projects or elements of projects.
Westmeath County Council will provide grant finance to qualify festival and events. Invitations to apply for these grants are generally advertised in january for events taking place in the first half of the year and again in May, for events in the second half of the year. Applications received by the Council will be assessed based on selection adn evaluation criteria and a letter of offer will be issued to successful applicants. Payment of the grant will generally be made when the event has been held and a post event report submitted.
Each year Westmeath County Council provides grant support to Community and Voluntary organisations or Chambers of Commerce for grant assistance towards the cost of operating their Christmas Lights in the local town or village.
The Local Agenda 21 Partnership Fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects. Projects focus on environmental awareness and actions which compliment national environmental policies such as those on Waste, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Air, Water, Sustainable Development etc. The fund is jointly financed by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and the Local Authority. Grants under this heading are usually advertised in June - July, details of this grant can be accessed through Westmeath County Councils Environment Section.
Westmeath County Council offers grant aid to groups or organisations, which in the opnion of the authority, will stimulate public interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving the standards of the Arts. Arts are defined as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry and the fine arts and applied arts generally. Decisions will be weighted in favour of those projects that address the objectives outlined in the Council's Arts Plan. Assistance will be given only in respect of future activities occuring in 2017 and not towards retrospective arts activity. Creative Ireland is the Government's Legacy Programme for Ireland 2016 - a five year initiative, from 2017 to 2022, which places creativity at the centre of pubic policy. Westmeath County Council, in association with Creative Ireland, a Cross Government Iniative, wishes to develop a programme of events as part fo teh Creative Ireland Programme 2017.2022.
