County Westmeath is located  in the Midlands of Ireland. Westmeath has two large urban centres Mullingar and Athlone. From the capital city,  Dublin there are excellent public transport services, making the county very accessible. Neighbouring counties are Meath, Cavan, Longford, Roscommon and Offaly.

By Air

Dublin International Airport is approximately one hours drive from Mullingar and one and half hours drive from Athlone. Not only is Dublin Airport Ireland's busiest airport it is also amongst the ten busiest airports in Europe. The airport is excellently served by a wide range of airports from the UK, Continental Europe and the US.

By Sea

Near to Westmeath are the ferryports of  Dublin  and Dun Laoghaire, south of Dublin city and  Rosslare in the South East of the country.  A range of ferry operators serving Great Britain  and France (to Rosslare) use these ports.

By Bus

A regular bus schedule from around the country serves Athlone and Mullingar.

By road

Given its central location, Westmeath is easily accessible from all parts of Ireland.Travelling by car on the motorways from Dublin  is very convenient heading west on the M4 towards Mullingar  and on the  M6 towards Athlone. National Roads  are marked "N" on roadmaps e.g. "N52". Smaller country roads are denoted with the letter "R". Other roads or tracks may be prefixed with the letter "L"- these are Local roads.
